Before You Sit Down

This Does Not Look Like a Dental Office

Both waiting rooms were furnished like living rooms on purpose. Coffee, natural light, somewhere comfortable to sit. For a lot of people the room is the part that lowers the blood pressure before anything else does.

Why People Stay

What a Private Practice Actually Changes

Indigo is a private practice rather than part of a corporate group, so nobody upstairs sets a production target for your appointment. In practice that shows up in three ways our patients keep writing about.

No Lecture About the Gap

A lot of people walk in having avoided a dentist for years. That is treated as a starting point, not a failing. We take a full picture of where things stand, then work through it in an order that makes sense to you.

“There was absolutely no judgment at all.”

The Cost, Before the Treatment

You leave the first visit with a written treatment plan, the options explained and financing discussed. Patients regularly tell us they knew their exact co-pay a week before the appointment.

“I knew the exact amount of my co-pay the week before.”

The Same Dentist Each Time

Dr. McCoy is at Northeast Columbia and Dr. Zerener is at West Columbia. You see the same person on every visit, which is how they can remember what worries you and plan around it.

“They make me feel welcomed and remembered.”

What We Do

General Dentistry, Start to Finish

Both offices handle routine care and the bigger work, so a problem found at a cleaning usually does not mean a referral somewhere else.

  1. 01

    Preventative Care

Cleanings, exams, digital X-rays and oral cancer screenings, so small problems get caught while they are still small.

  2. 02

    Periodontal Care

Treatment for gum disease, from a full periodontal screening at your first visit through to ongoing therapy on a shorter recall.

  3. 03

    Restorative Dentistry

Fillings, crowns and bridges to repair teeth affected by decay, wear or a fracture.

  4. 04

    Cosmetic Dentistry

Work aimed at how your smile looks as well as how it functions, planned around what you actually want to change.

  5. 05

    Invisalign

Clear aligners rather than brackets and wires. Dr. McCoy is Invisalign certified.

  6. 06

    Teeth Whitening

Professional whitening, with results and expectations discussed before you start.

  7. 07

    Root Canals

Treatment for an infected or badly damaged tooth so it can be saved rather than pulled.

  8. 08

    Dentures and Partial Dentures

Full and partial dentures, plus relines, for replacing missing teeth. Both are covered by the savings plan discount.

  9. 09

    Oral Surgery

Extractions including wisdom teeth, handled in the office by a dentist you already know.

No Dental Insurance

$460 a Year, and the Cleanings Are Already Paid For

The practice runs its own savings plan for patients with no dental insurance, so a cleaning and an exam are not something you have to put off. You pay once for the year and the preventive work is already covered.

  • 20% off most treatment
  • 365 Days of coverage

Your Dentist

The 2 Dentists You Could Be Seeing

Both studied at the University of South Carolina before dental school, and both have been practicing here long enough that most of their patients arrive by word of mouth. Each of them spends one day a week at the other office, so the front desk will confirm who you are booked with when they call.

What Patients Say

In Their Own Words

Dr. McCoy has a genuine bedside manner that cannot be taught, and that in itself is so appreciated. I have had three visits thus far, and I am thoroughly pleased.
– Jeanne L.
I hate needles and the drill and let me tell you it was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Indigo is the first dentist office in Columbia where you are not just a patient but also a friend.
– Deborah N.
I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in. The dental assistant and doctor were equally attentive to my needs, everything on my treatment plan was explained to me in detail.
– Lakaymia C.

Your First Visit

What Actually Happens When You Come In

The first appointment is a full one rather than a quick look, because a treatment plan is only worth anything if it is built on the whole picture. Here is the order it runs in.

  1. 1

    You Get Checked In

Reception walks you through the paperwork and takes your medical history. Nobody rushes this part.

  2. 2

    X-Rays and a Gum Screening

A full series of digital X-rays, then a periodontal screening with the hygienist so we know where your gum health actually stands.

  3. 3

    Your Exam

The dentist examines your teeth and gums thoroughly, asks about your habits and listens to whatever has been bothering you.

  4. 4

    A Plan, With the Cost

You leave with a written treatment plan, your options explained, financing discussed and your next appointment booked. You will know what things cost before you agree to anything.

Before You Call

Frequently Asked Questions

Still not sure? The front desk is happy to answer a question without booking you anything. Call (803) 736-9991 for Northeast Columbia or (803) 796-9312 for West Columbia.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, at both offices. Send the form and the front desk will call you back to get you on the schedule.

What if I have not been to a dentist in years?

That is a large share of the people who walk in, and it is not something you will be lectured about. We start with a full picture of where things stand, then work through it in an order that makes sense.

Do you take my insurance?

Almost certainly. We are in-network with nearly every insurance company, so rather than check a list, send the form or call and the front desk will verify your specific plan before you come in. The one thing we cannot take is Medicaid, along with a few federal plans.

What if I do not have dental insurance?

Our in-office savings plan is $460 a year for an adult and $350 for a child, and it covers 2 cleanings, 2 exams, 2 fluoride treatments, 2 oral cancer screenings, a full set of X-rays and an emergency exam, with 20% off most other treatment. Coverage runs 365 Days from your start date. It cannot be combined with dental insurance or another discount. We also accept CareCredit.

Will I know what it costs before you start?

Yes. You get a written treatment plan with your options and the cost, and we go through financing before anything is scheduled.

How often should I come in?

Twice a year for most people. Patients being treated for gum disease usually come 4 times a year, and we will explain why if that applies to you. Children should be seen by their first birthday or when the first tooth appears.

Are dental X-rays safe?

The office uses digital X-rays, which carry less radiation than you already get from a normal day of being outside. They show cavities, infections and bone loss that an exam on its own cannot.

Which office should I go to?

Whichever is closer. Dr. McCoy is usually at Northeast Columbia on Alpine Circle and Dr. Zerener is usually at West Columbia on Medical Circle, and each of them spends one day a week at the other office. Pick the office you want on the form and the front desk will confirm who you are booked with when they call.
